Hope this mail finds you well and welcome to a brand new semester!

This semester, the International Students' Department in association with the Chinese Students and Scholars' Association, Malaysian Students' Organisation and Hong Kong Students' Society, is proud to present the International Ball 2008. Details are as follow:

Date:     2nd Aug 2008, Saturday
Time:    7pm till midnight
Venue: The Royal Theatre, National Convention Centre Canberra
Theme: Broadway
Dress-code: Formal
After-party: The Uni Pub
Price:    $49/ticket
Ticket sales will commence on the 22nd of July at the Refectory.

Scheduled for the night are performances by various clubs and societies and an awesome raffle draw with the top prize of a return air ticket to Malaysia! Not to mention, of cos, the PS3 and XBox360 consoles, digital camera, external hard disk, gym memberships, vouchers... and as the biggest social event for international students, this one is not to be missed. So, get your tickets early!

关于比赛：

 

2008年，充满了精彩与坎坷。我们经历过痛楚和挫折，也经历过感动与温馨。我们感受过悲伤，流下过泪水；品尝过团结，选择过坚强。这是值得记录的一年。堪培拉中国学生学者联谊会邀请您和我们一起，用手中的镜头记录下这一年里我们身边的点点滴滴，将珍贵的瞬间恒久保存。

比赛奖项：

此次摄影比赛设最佳主题奖2名，最佳创意奖1名，最佳色彩奖1名，最佳构图奖1名。摄像比赛设最佳主题奖2名，最佳故事奖1名，最佳配乐奖1名，最佳特效奖1名。名经评审组确定获奖作品及作者名单后颁发获奖证书并奖励精美奖品。获奖作品将在2008年东方神韵3晚会上进行展示。

 

摄影作品要求:
1. 作品投稿数量限定为1－8张作品
2. 每幅作品都需要不超过200字的中英文文字介绍
3. 作品介绍中可写明焦距曝光等数据
4. 作品必须是数码格式(胶片作品必须扫描成数码格式)

摄像作品要求:
1. 时间控制在10分钟以内的影片一部
2. 影片需要不超过200字的中英文文字介绍
3. 影片需要生成MPEG 或者 AVI 的格式后刻录于DVD之上
4. 中文语音影片需要英文字幕
5. 英文语音影片不需要字幕
6. 内容比较积极,不涉及色情暴力等镜头

报名方式：

本次比赛采用网上报名方式。填写报名表，即可提交大赛创意作品，报名与提交作品时间可以同步。请参赛者尽快进行报名。

Canberra CSSA Photograph & Digital Video competition

2008 is full of moments. There were moments of celebration of the arrival of the Olympic torch There were moments of grief of the disastrous earthquake. There were moments in which we stood strong and moments when we cried together. CSSA invites you to capture these moments in 2008, these moments of courage, inspiration and love; to capture and treasure our lives in Canberra.

Important Dates

Submission Due: 5 pm, 1st September , 2008.
Notification: The final results will be announced at the Oriental Myth III Evening at 11 October.

Topics

Topic 1: 2008 Cheer China

Topic 2: 2008 Great life in Canberra

Awards for the competition:

For the photography competition, awards including: the best illustration of the topic award 2, the best creativity award 1, the best structure of the photo award 1, the best color of the photo 1.

For the digital video competition, awards including: the best illustration of the topic award 2, the best story in video award, the best music in video award, the best special visual effect in video award. 

Conditions and requirements

Photography category:

1. At most 8 photos works per submission.
2. Accompanied by a written introduction in English (compulsory) and in Chinese (optional), limited to 200 words each.
3. Introduction can include technical details such as focus, exposal data.
4. Works must be in digital format (scanned filmed photos acceptable).
5. No violence or adult themes.

Digital video category:

1. One video only.  Maximum duration: 10 minutes.
2. Accompanied by a written introduction in English (compulsory) and in Chinese (optional), limited to 200 words each
3. MPEG or AVI format on DVD.
4. English subtitle is required for videos speaking Chinese. No subtitle requirement for English video.
5. No violence or adult themes.

Annual General Meeting Report

Meeting Sequence:

1.        Introduction to the annual status of CSSA by the president, Patrick Qian.

2.        Played a short video produced by Yike Gao.

3.        Presentation of the financial report and position by the treasure of CSSA Wenye Xu. (Feb 07 – April 08)

4.        Ballot papers handed to members with the presentation of their membership card

5.        Speeches given by candidates.

6.        Vote

7.        Collect ballot papers.

8.        Ballot slips are tallied under the supervision of a member who is not committee

9.        Meeting concluded with the commencement of the new committee member.

 

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held for four hours.

 

The annual financial situation is publicised through AGM this year. Till the April 2008, the total income of CSSA is $18,550.12, the total expenditure of CSSA is $15,989.30, and then the total profit is $2,560.82. The details and further information could be seen in the annual financial report (prepared by Wenye Xu)

 

Under the principle of impartiality, equity, and publicity, 47 ballots are collected. The results are as following (refer. Table 1):
